Meet the executive committee of your UWSLA, led by President, Kieran Ginges ('01).

President - Kieran Ginges ('01)

Kieran GingesBiographical Note
Kieran Ginges went to the Bar early in 2004 and currently practises from Selborne Chambers in Sydney. Kieran’s busy and varied practice sees him undertaking all sorts of work from running criminal jury trials to hearings in the Local, District and Supreme Courts (as well as Federal Courts). He has previously practised as a solicitor in Sydney, and in London as an investigator for the Insolvency Service.

Goals for UWSLA in 2006-2007
Kieran would like to see the UWSLA continue to develop into a forum for networking (socially and professionally), and as a medium for past students to keep in touch with each other, the School of Law and current students. He believes that the UWSLA has the potential to offer a lot to its members through formal and informal professional events, and representing the interests of its members, along with providing assistance to UWS Law students (the Alumni’s future members).

 

Vice-President - Nilusha Seneviratne ('03)

Nilusha SeneviratneBiographical Note
Nilusha graduated from UWS in 2003 and now works at Leverage Australia, developing a specialty in Property Law and all Property Law transactions in all Australian States and in New Zealand. Nilusha manages the property law division of the firm and also overseas some of the General and Commercial Litigation matters. She also handles Family Law and Estate matters.

Goals for UWSLA in 2006-07
Nilusha would like to help develop and raise the profile of the UWS Law Alumni in the legal community and is actively involved in the development of the CLE/CPD seminar series run by UWS in conjunction with the College of Law. Nilusha would also like to be able to provide help, support and networking opportunities to other graduates through the alumni.

 

Secretary - Matthew Wong ('02)

Biographical Note
Matthew Wong joined New South Wales Bar in early 2004 and currently practises from Arthur Phillip Chambers in Parramatta. Matthew has a mixed practice, including: commercial litigation, insolvency/bankruptcy and family/de facto law.

Prior to going to the Bar, Matthew worked in the Secretariat (Office of the CEO) and Legal Department of the Commonwealth Bank of Australia. Matthew has also worked as a legislative adviser for a member of the New South Wales Legislative Council.

Goals for UWSLA in 2006-2007
During his tenure, Matthew hopes to assist the executive in its effort to establish a firm foundation upon which to position the UWSLA as the pre-eminent conduit between the Profession, the University and the Alumni.

 

Treasurer - Andrew Compton ('03)

Biographical Note
Andrew Compton graduated from UWS in 2003, and works at the Australian Tax Office.

 

Secretary - Joshua Saunders ('02)

Biographical Note
Joshua Saunders graduated from UWS in 2002, and since that time has been a solicitor at Blake Dawson Waldron.

Goals for UWSLA in 2006-2007
During the last 12 months Joshua has been an active member of the UWSLA Executive team, involved in the planning and execution of several events, including the formal launch of the UWSLA. He hopes to contribute to the growing success of the Law Alumni over the following year.

Joshua is also a member of the Alumni Development Advisory Committee of the Board of Trustees.

 

Counsellor - James Willis ('05)

Biographical Note
James Willis graduated from UWS in 2005, and since that time has been a solicitor at Mallesons Stephen Jaques.

Counsellor - John Juriansz ('02)

John JurianszBiographical Note
John Juriansz is a lecturer at UWS.  He has served as a Founding Member, Vice-President (2004-2005) and President (2005-2006).

Goals for UWSLA in 2006-2007
John is committed to ensuring continued membership growth, the sponsorship of a joint UWSLA/College of Law CLE series the hosting of a lecture series featuring notable legal and political personalities, and the continuation of the UWSLA's sponsorship of other events which promote opportunities to network with fellow members and the greater legal community.

 

Special Representative - Tayanah O'Donnell

Biographical Note
Tayanah O'Donnell is in her final year of legal studies and is looking to be admitted early 2007. She currently works for Champion Legal Pty Ltd in Business and Commercial Legal Services, who are based in Parramatta. During her time at university she served as President of the University of Western Sydney Law Students' Association for two consecutive years, and was a key player in the amalgamation of the former two entities. Tayanah is currently an Executive Councillor with NSW Young Lawyers.

Tayanah's role on the UWS Law Alumni Executive is as Special Representative. Tayanah is seeking to increase the profile of the Law Alumni by offering more networking and CLE events.
