The Information Technology Directorate (ITD) has developed a range of IT fact sheets for staff and students at UWS:
The fact sheets are intended to provide answers to frequently asked questions (FAQs), general IT information and guides for IT services, in an easy to read, low jargon format.
Fact sheets will be published in pdf format, requiring Adobe Reader to view these files. Adobe Reader is installed by default on all standard UWS computers, or may be downloaded from the Adobe website.
These fact sheets cover connecting to AirUWS, the UWS wireless network released in 2007, with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Macintosh OSX based computers.
Older versions of this fact sheet should now be destroyed.
For more information on the wireless network, please see AirUWS Wireless Network.
Covers the correct proxy server settings for use when connected to the UWS network. While Internet Explorer is the only supported browser software at UWS, these fact sheets include settings for a number of popular browsers.
Covers AMIS user accounts. AMIS accounts are required so that associates of UWS can obtain MyUWSAccounts and therefore access to the UWS network and internet.
Covers the additional services IT is able to provide postgrad students, including AMIS accounts, software installations and access to computers.
Covers using WebDrive software at UWS. WebDrive is the only supported WebDAV software at UWS, and will be used in place of File Transfer Protocol (FTP) software to update those websites not managed through the University Content Management System.
Covers connecting to the UWS Remote Environment (Citrix) using the UWS Library's LGE R500 Laptops. Students using these laptops are able to wirelessly access their student My Documents and a number of popular software applications.
Covers the basics of configuring Outlook (Office 2007) or Entourage 2008 to receive UWS email.
Requests and suggestions for future fact sheets should be sent to Tony Fathers. Please note that it may not be possible to satisfy all requests.
