Please see the following proxy settings documents:
Generic UWS Proxy Settings
Note: These settings will work in Internet Explorer, other browsers may use different formats for the Exceptions list. The correct format for your browser should be found on your browser's support website.
UWS Standard Proxy Setting
The current UWS standard is to use the 'Automatically detect settings' option.
Manual Configuration
Use http proxy settings only - do not complete any other fields.
Note: Safari users may also need to add *.uws.edu.au to Safari's exception list.
Private Internet Service Providers
If you connect to the internet via a private Internet Service Provider (ISP), you’ll need to set your browser to match your ISP’s recommended proxy settings - UWS proxy settings will not work with ISP connections.
Links to setting proxies in a number of popular browsers can be found at the start and finish of this page.
If you’ve been migrated to Layer 3, and only use your computer on the UWS Local Area Network (LAN), you’re already setup! The correct proxy settings for your machine are provided as part of the Layer 3 process. Should changes be required, they will be automatically implemented next time you use your Layer 3 computer on the UWS Local Area Network (LAN). If you’re using UWS Dial-in services, you may need to change your Dial-in settings.
However, if you’re using a non-Layer 3 computer (no orange 'EA Desktop Enabled' sticker), or a non-UWS computer, you’ll need to check your settings are correct, and manually change them if necessary.
UWS now uses the 'Automatically detect settings' option, which allows service improvements made at the server end to be implemented immediately across UWS.
To assist in controlling internet access costs, UWS uses a proxy server - a computer that caches (stores) web pages accessed by staff and students. The next time the page is requested, it will generally be delivered by the proxy server rather than the original site, thus saving on download charges and improving page delivery speeds. Internal (intranet) sites don’t attract download charges and have no need to access the proxy.
Our system has been setup so that you must use the proxy to access external web sites. If your settings are incorrect, you’ll find you can access UWS Intranet websites normally, but will see errors when you try to leave UWS.
Although Microsoft Internet Explorer is the only web browser supported by UWS, the documents linked below also include step-by-step instructions on settings for some other popular browsers (Acrobat Reader will be required to view documents).
