Ahmed Moustafa

My research interests lie in the field of computational cognitive neuroscience and cognitive neuropsychology. I use both computational and empirical methods to study how various brain structures—particularly, basal ganglia, prefrontal cortex, and hippocampus— subserve performance in various cognitive processes, including reward learning, decision making, attention, and working memory. My overall research goals are to (a) develop theoretical and computational models that explain how cognitive processes emerge from systems-level neural interactions, and (b) test theoretical model predictions using neuropsychological methods. Most of the patients I work with include patients with Parkinson’s disease, depression, PTSD, or addiction.
