Money matters and scholarships
GO GLOBAL GRANTS | Travel grants commonly known as Go Global Grants are available for Western Sydney University students participating in an approved overseas activity such as the semester or year-long Western Go Global Exchange Program or an Overseas Short Course. Eligible students must be actively enrolled in one of the following campuses: Parramatta South, Parramatta City, Penrith, Campbelltown, Liverpool, Hawkesbury or Bankstown.

OS-HELP | A deferred debt Australian Government loan for Commonwealth supported undergraduate and postgraduate Australian citizens up to $8,295. Academic recognition is required; have completed 80 units of study; and have 10 units remaining on return. See OS-HELP. |
HECS-HELP | If you participate in the Go Global Exchange Program you are not required to pay tuition fees to your host university. You will continue to pay your tuition fees to Western Sydney University as per usual, whether you pay your fees upfront or defer them through the taxation system. Eligibility: Australian citizens, and holders of permanent humanitarian visas in a Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) at Western Sydney University. Australian permanent residents and New Zealand citizens must pay their HECS upfront. |
Centrelink | You may be eligible for Centrelink payments while overseas. Find out more about the requirements. |
Insurance | Students that travel overseas on approved University activities are covered by the corporate travel insurance policy for the official University component of their trip. This may include travel overseas for the purposes of placement, work experience, practicums, research, conferences, student exchange and tours. Please note this cover is limited and does not include personal travel. It is advised that you read the Western Sydney University Travel and Insurance policy closely. You should find out what it doesn't cover before you go, and if needed, organise additional personal travel insurance. |

What costs can I expect on a semester or year-long exchange?
During the exchange period you will be responsible for paying your tuition fees (HECS or international student fees) at Western Sydney University.
Additional expenses include your airfare to and from your destination, accommodation, campus health cover (where relevant), food, public transport, books and any other living or travel expenses.
An estimate of the cost of additional expenses is between A$7,000 - $10,000 for six months to $14,000 - $20,000 for 12 months. This is a general figure and may vary greatly due to the exchange rate or cost of living in the country where you are studying. You should investigate the costs involved for your exchange carefully. Also, budget for any additional travel you plan to do while overseas.
Don't rely on obtaining work to pay for your costs while overseas. Some countries do not allow students to work or it might be difficult to find a part-time job.
