She was also the Dean of Science at the University of Sydney for four years and Head of Department of Psychology at Macquarie University. Professor Hesketh is an eminent and currently active researcher. She has published widely internationally, and has been a recipient of Australian Research Council (ARC) funding continuously since 1987. She has also served on, and chaired, one of the ARC Large Grants panels.
Through her role in several cooperative research centres and on the boards of spin-off companies, she has experience in the commercialisation of intellectual property and the creation of productive university-industry links. She was the recipient of the Elton Mayo Award in 1997 for her contribution to Australian and International research and teaching in organisational psychology.
Learning and teaching interests
Professor Beryl Hesketh has 30 years of experience teaching psychology in university contexts, and has been involved in the detailed development, evaluation and revision of curriculum and courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels at Massey University (including distance education), UNSW, Macquarie University, the University of Sydney and at the University of Western Sydney. With assistance from the Macquarie University Vice Chancellor’s Development Grant she integrated all the Organisational Psychology teaching into WebCT in 1998 and made extensive used of web-assisted teaching. From this work she has developed a research interest in examining the most effective ways of using electronic media in teaching. She has supervised 12 PhD students and numerous Masters and Honours students in the area of organizational psychology. In her roles as Dean and Pro Vice Chancellor, she has been strongly supportive of academic staff who are driving innovation in their teaching and undertaking research into teaching, including funding for research into the science of teaching and through the recognition of teaching in promotions.
Research interests
