The University of Western Sydney's new John Phillips Library has been shortlisted for the World Architecture Festival (WAF) Awards in the higher education and research category.

Named after the former Chancellor of UWS, John Phillips, the library opened in April 2015 on the University's Penrith campus.

At six storeys tall and combining the resources of both the Allen and Ward libraries, the $30 million building also features group study rooms, collaborative learning spaces, and the latest Wi-Fi and AV technologies.

Mr Phillips served as Chancellor from 2001 to 2010, passing away in November 2014.

The eighth annual WAF Awards will be held in Singapore 4-6 November, with the John Phillips Library one of 40 Australian projects shortlisted for an award.
