Students can apply for any scholarship, for which they meet the eligibility criteria. All scholarships have their own individual eligibility criteria and students should read the eligibility criteria before making an application. Some of the criteria may include being enrolled in a particular area of study, residential location, applying to study in a particular course, equity considerations etc.
Yes, you can apply for as many scholarships as you like. It is advised that you apply for any and all scholarships for which you meet the eligibility criteria.
Information and application forms for all scholarships offered by UWS are available on the Scholarships website. Scholarship application forms must be printed, completed and submitted to the Scholarships Officer with any supporting documentation by the relevant closing date. Application forms can also be found in the back of the Scholarships brochure.
Online Scholarships Application
All closing dates for scholarships are published on the Scholarships website.
An acknowledgement email will be sent within one week of your application being received by the Scholarships Officer. Please contact the Scholarships Officer if you do not receive an acknowledgement email.
Once the applications have been assessed and the outcomes are known to the Scholarships Officer, all applicants are notified in writing.
In the majority of cases, applicants are notified within six weeks of the scholarship closing date. In exceptional circumstances this may take longer.
Each scholarship has stringent selection criteria with the applicant who best meets the selection criteria and who is approved by the relevant donor or selection committee, offered the scholarship. In some cases, this may involve an interview with the donor or selection committee.
Selection criterion can include; academic merit, Grade Point Average (GPA) or Universities Admissions Index (UAI), equity criteria (financial hardship, sole parent/carer, non-English speaking background, medical condition/disability, Indigenous, etc), location (rural or isolated), personal attributes, performance at interview or a combination of selection criteria.
Some scholarships do not allow the recipient to be in receipt of any other scholarships. Where someone is awarded more than one scholarship and the criterion for one or all of the scholarships states that you cannot be in receipt of another scholarship. The recipient would decide which scholarship they would like to accept. This information can be found in the eligibility criteria for each scholarship.
You will receive notification in the mail. An official offer letter, along with the conditions of the scholarship and a scholarship acceptance/agreement form will be sent to you. Once you have viewed the scholarship conditions and if you agree to them, you must complete and return the agreement form to the Scholarships Officer by the date indicated in your offer letter. If the agreement is not received by the due date, it may be assumed that you do not wish to accept the scholarship and it will be offered to another candidate.
Scholarship payments are only made after the relevant semester census date (Semester 1 - 31 March, Semester 2 - 31 August) and once enrolment requirements are confirmed. Payment is made in the form of an electronic funds transfer (EFT) directly deposited into a nominated account or by cheque made payable to the recipient and mailed to their designated postal address.
A scholarships presentation ceremony is normally held each year. This ceremony is not for all scholarships. Those eligible recipients will receive an invitation and will have the opportunity to meet the donors of their scholarship. All recipients are awarded an official scholarship certificate.
Some scholarships at UWS cannot be deferred, please check the Terms and Conditions.
You must contact the Scholarships Officer in this instance.
Scholarships are intended to assist students with costs relating to study and some scholarships stipulate how the funds are to be used, i.e. an account at the Uni Bookshop; or payment of fees. Some recipients from rural or regional areas use the funds provided for travel to attend classroom teaching blocks or practical components of their course.
If you are approved to undertake a course transfer within UWS and your previous scholarship period has expired, then you may apply for another scholarship.
It is the student's responsibility to seek advice from the relevant government department or their financial advisor in regards to their own personal circumstances.

You will be contacted directly by the relevant donor contact to arrange your work experience in the semester breaks. If you are unsure, contact the Scholarships Officer.
In instances where the academic requirements are not stated in the scholarship criterion, an appropriate academic record is deemed as achieving a Credit average and not failing any units undertaken.
