Ian Porter Scholarship

Campbelltown City Council has dedicated this scholarship to the memory of Ian Slade Porter, General Manager of Campbelltown City Council 1988-1999. Ian was a man of great integrity whose leadership and vision brought Campbelltown to the forefront of local government in NSW. He was totally committed to his community and to the principle of access to education for all its citizens. In the education field Ian was a lecturer in local government administration, a long standing member of the UWS Macarthur Council and Chairman of the UWS Macarthur Consultative Committee. This scholarship perpetuates the memory of Ian and his immense contribution to the Campbelltown community, which will be remembered well into the 21st Century.  

Scholarship Benefits: Up to $2 500 per year
Duration: Up to three years
Courses: Any UWS undergraduate degree

Eligibility to apply

Applicants must:

  • be an Australian citizen or permanent resident of Australia
  • be enrolling in full-time study
  • be a commencing student starting at UWS for the first time
  • have resided in the Campbelltown City Council Region for at least one year prior to their commencement at UWS.


Application Process and Selection:

Selection of the successful applicants will be based on their written application and if short listed, in an interview before a selection panel consisting of a representative of Campbelltown Council, A member or representative of the Porter family, a representative or nominee of the UWS Foundation and a representative or nominee of the chair of the UWS Academic Senate Committee.

Applicants will also be assessed on their leadership skills and their work experience

Conditions:

Retention of the scholarship after the first year is subject to a minimum GPA of 5 being maintained and reported to Council. 

Recipients must continue to be a resident of Campbelltown LGA for the duration of the scholarship. In the case of extenuating circumstances including but not limited to forced relocation by eviction, repossession, emergency or domestic violence this condition may be waived.
